Americans generally believe that today's immigrants, who come primarily from Latin America and Asia, are far different than their own immigrant ancestors from Europe. But is that really the case? Using New York as a case study, Tyler Anbinder, a professor of history at George Washington University, finds that there are many more similarities than one might imagine between previous generations of immigrants and those arriving in the United States in the twenty-first century.
